Access The Same Fraud- Identifying Data CMS Uses

Your location could land you in the hot seat.

Want to know if you may be next on the list for a new home health agency moratorium? New data released by CMS can give you a hint.

The new “Moratoria Provider Services and Utilization Data Tool includes interactive maps and a dataset that shows national, state and county level provider services and utilization data for selected health service areas,” the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says on its website. CMS can use the data “to determine which geographic and health service areas might be considered for a moratorium on new providers,” the agency says.

For example: California and Ohio lead the nation in number of providers, the interactive data map shows.

Data, which is extracted directly from the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS), is available down to the county level, CMS notes in a release. It’s updated quarterly, with the latest data displayed from October 2014 to September 2015.

See the data online at https://data.cms.gov/moratoria-data.
