A month-long trial has resulted in six guilty convictions related to the fraud case against Abide Home Health in New Orleans. Back in 2015, owner Lisa Crinel and others pled guilty in a fraud case centering on paying sham fees to physicians in exchange for referrals (see Eli’s HCW, Vol. XXIV, No. 41). Now docs Shelton Barnes, Henry Evans, Gregory Molden, and Michael Jones have all been convicted of fraud charges after a jury found that they ordered medically unnecessary home health services in exchange for medical director or medical consulting fees. Jones’s wife, Paula Jones, who was hired and paid an inflated salary by Abide, and office worker Jonathan Nora were also found guilty on several counts, the Department of Justice says in a release.
