Industry Note:

35-Year-Old Hospice Facility Closes Its Doors

Not everyone is opening an inpatient hospice unit. Hospice of St. John in Lakewood, Co., is closing its 35-year-old inpatient unit due to sequestration cuts and thin profit margins, reports The Denver Post. The 2 percent reduction cost the 44-bed hospice facility $250,000, it says. The hospice will continue its home care services.

Denver Hospice will lose about $1 million from sequestration cuts, it tells the Post. Denver Hospice CEO Bev Sloan expects "there will be hospice closures all across the United States, and certainly others will cut back their service levels," according to the newspaper.
