Phoenix Hospice Settles Fraud Charges For $2.2 Million

Another whistleblower suit is leading to a big payout for a former hospice employee. Serenity Hospice and Palliative Care former employee Cheryl Sifford will receive about $440,000 of the $2.2 million settlement the Phoenix hospice agreed to, reports The Republic newspaper. Serenity founder and former president Ruth Siegel agreed to a five-year exclusion from Medicare in the deal, the Department of Justice notes in a release.

In her suit, Sifford accused the hospice of admitting ineligible patients and furnishing kickbacks like limo rides and concerts to referral sources, The Republic says.
