Industry News:

HHA Chains Perform Below Expectations

The U.S. Senate and Securities and Exchange Commission's probes into home health therapy may have started to affect publicly traded companies' earnings reported for the quarter ending June 30. National chain Amedisys Inc. reported net income of $32.2 million on revenues of $422.3 million. That's down 8 percent from a profit of $35.1 million for the same period in 2009, although the Baton Rouge, La.-based company's revenues did rise from $377.9 million in that time period. The earnings were below expectations, CEO William Borne says in a release. Regional chain LHC Group Inc. reported net income of $16.3 million on revenues of $154.2 million for the quarter, up from a $14.2 million profit on $133.0 million in revenues from the year-ago quarter. But those figures just missed analysts' expectations for the Ruston, La.-based company, sending stock prices lower.
