Hospices Happiest With Their Intermediaries.

Home care providers are above average

in their satisfaction with their Medicare contractors.

A CMS contractor surveyed more than 33,000 Medicare providers in the Medicare Contractor Provider Satisfaction Survey for 2010. Regional home health intermediaries received a 3.99 score out of 5, where 3 indicated "neither satisfied or dissatisfied" and 4 indicated "satisfied." That compares to a 3.80 score for all types of Medicare contractors overall, according to the MCPSS report. Cahaba GBA scored the highest (4.29), while National Government Services (3.86) and Palmetto GBA (3.82) trailed behind.

DME Medicare Administrative Contractors were closer to average with a 3.81 satisfaction score. The DME MACs were more closely bunched, with CIGNA leading the pack (3.87), then NGS (3.83), NHIC (3.79), and Noridian (3.74).

Hospices trailed only ESRD providers and rural health clinics in contractor satisfaction at 80.8 percent being either "satisfied" or "very satisfied." That figure was 78.7 percent for suppliers and 78.3 percent for HHAs, the MCPSS report says.
