Federal agents have arrested four more individuals for alleged Medicare fraud related to Patient Choice Home Healthcare and All American Home Care in Oakland County, Mich. Twenty-one individuals have now been charged for their roles in this home care fraud scheme, says the U.S. Department of Justice in a release. According to a new indictment in the case, Maira Suleman, John Thomas, and Sherry Prescott "allegedly falsified medical records used to justify and/or bill services to Medicare," the DOJ says. In addition, Myra Jones and several other individuals recruited Medicare beneficiaries for the owners of Patient Choice and All American, paying the beneficiaries kickbacks for their Medicare information and their signatures on documents that detailed physical therapy services that were either never rendered or not medically necessary, the indictment alleges. The indictment also accuses Dr. Pramod Raval of taking kickbacks from Patient Choice for referrals and charges him with fraud. Medicare paid Patient Choice and All American more than $14.5 million for services that were medically unnecessary and/or not provided between August 2007 and September 2009, prosecutors allege. The case was brought as part of the Medicare Fraud Strike Force. Ten defendants have pled guilty so far, the DOJ says.
