Education:
Use These OASIS-D Resources To Smooth Your Transition
Published on Fri Nov 02, 2018
Medicare is offering free OASIS-D training.
Here are some places you can turn for information and expert advice on the dramatically revamped OASIS-D assessment tool and guidelines:
- Back issues of Eli’s Home Care Week. Use the information, expert analysis, and strategies shared in Eli’s HCW, Vol. 27, No. 14 (overview, added and dropped items); No. 15 (pitfalls, GG0170, dashes); No. 28 (J1800, J1900); and No. 30 (ROC timing), among others. Access your back issues at www.aapc.com/codes/coding-newsletters/my-homecare-week-alert.
- Medicare OASIS documents. The draft OASIS-D Guidance Manual has specific item instructions, general instructions, and examples. Links to the manual and an errata document are in the “Downloads” box at www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/HomeHealthQualityInits/HHQIOASISUserManual.html.
- CMS OASIS-D Training. The in-person training event the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has planned for Nov. 7 and Nov. 8 has already filled its 250 slots, but CMS is also making the training in Baltimore available via webcast. Register and see the agenda via links at www.eventbrite.com/e/home-health-quality-reporting-program-provider-training-tickets-50119686331. Video recordings of CMS’s earlier OASIS-D training sessions held Aug. 28 and Sept. 5, covering
OASIS-D and Section GG, respectively, are now posted at www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/HomeHealthQualityInits/Home-Health-Quality-Reporting-Training.html. Links to the slide presentations from those sessions are in the “Downloads” box at the bottom of that webpage. (The presentations contain 158 and 189 slides, respectively.)
- State OASIS-D training. Check with your state OASIS coordinator to see whether the state is holding training.
For example: Missouri is holding free one-day training in six locations around the state this November and December — see details at https://health.mo.gov/safety/homecare/pdf/oasis-d-training-flyer.pdf.
