Compliance:

Move Compliance Program To The Front Burner

How’s your internal monitoring going?

A crucial best practice is a strong compliance program. The HHS Office of Inspector General’s seven fundamental elements of an effective one are:

  1. Written policies, procedures, and standards that address arrangements with other providers/suppliers; and codes of conduct that promote a commitment to compliance
  2. A compliance officer and committee
  3. Regular, effective training and education
  4. Effective lines of communication
  5. Enforcement of standards through well-publicized disciplinary guidelines
  6. Internal monitoring and auditing and/or other evaluation techniques to monitor compliance and assist in the reduction of identified problems
  7. Prompt detection of offenses and development of corrective actions.
