Competitive Bidding:
FEDS UPDATE BIDDING SYSTEM TO PREVENT DATA LOSS
Published on Tue Jun 12, 2007
But hurry: deadline draws near.
If you're in the final throes of submitting your bid for Medicare's new competitive bidding program for home medical equipment, take heart: The feds' computers aren't as likely to log you off as they were at the start of bidding, sending the data you entered into a technological abyss.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said in a recent audioconference that it had changed the system after receiving many complaints about lost data.
What's new: Suppliers submitting bids now have 12 hours--not just two--to work online in the Competitive Bidding Submission System (CBSS) before being logged out automatically, reported CMS' Joel Kaiser at the special CMS conference call on July 9.
Deadlines: Suppliers have until July 20 at 9 p.m. ET to submit their bids for the first round of Medicare competitive bidding for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies (DMEPOS). Only suppliers that already have user IDs and passwords for the CBSS can bid (see Eli's Home Care Week, Vol. XVI, No. 24).
Tip: Be sure to keep your CBSS session active by sending data at least every 30 minutes, suggests CMS. To do so, press "update" or "submit" on the current page.
