Californias health care providers seem well on their way to meeting the April 2003 Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act compliance deadline. So says a survey released April 16 by the California HealthCare Foundationmeasuringthe HIPAA readiness of 100 health care organizations doing business in California. The study found that 81 percent of respondents had developed a strategic plan for HIPAA compliance, while slightly more than half had started to develop and implement readiness initiatives. Of the various groups studied, hospitals have made the most progress to date on readiness initiatives.
