Coordination between physicians drives healthcare today as disciplines become more specialized and referrals more prevalent. A new program from the American Medical Association (AMA) aims to improve the patient experience and interoperability between providers while collecting and utilizing important "meaningful data." The Integrated Health Model Initiative (IHMI) "supports a continuous learning environment to enable interoperable technology solutions and care models that evolve with real-world use and feedback," said the AMA website on the new program. "IHMI uses the best available science to incorporate essential data elements around function, state, and patient goals." The AMA plan hopes to "fill in data gaps," according to its YouTube video on the subject, "from wellness to illness in treatment and recovery." By utilizing a data model that reinforces "physician-led" protocols, the organization advocates this new approach as a way to build "collaborative communities around costly and burdensome areas" with its "digital platform." Clinicians interested in being part of the cutting-edge system can join the IHMI through the AMA website.
