Correction

In the article Medical Necessity Required to Correctly Bill Appendectomy Add-on Code on page 33 of the April General Surgery Coding Alert, we incorrectly coded a right hemicolectomy in which the appendix, along with the cecum and the terminal ileum, was removed as 44140 (colectomy, partial; with anastomosis), when the more appropriate code is 44160 (colectomy with removal of terminal ileum and ileocolostomy).
