This Helpful Tool Adds Up to Easy Colectomy Coding

Keep score to select from 44140-44160 Here's an easy way to select among the available partial colectomy CPT codes.

For each "additional" procedure your surgeon documents, add the number of points allotted for that procedure to your total points.

When you've added all the procedures that apply, check your total points against the list below to find the right code for your case.

If your total is:       Choose:    1 point                 44140
   2 points               44147
   3 points               44145
   4 points               44141
   5 points               44143
   6 points               44146
   7 points               44144
   8 points               44160
11 points            44144 Don't forget: You can always report +44139 (Mobilization [take-down] of splenic flexure performed in conjunction with partial colectomy [list separately in addition to primary procedure]) in addition to any of the above codes if the surgeon documents mobilization of the splenic flexure.
