READER QUESTIONS :

There's No Procedure Code for PEG-Tube Removal

Question: I haven't been able to find a code for gastrostomy tube removal without an endoscopy. Can I use 43760? New York Subscriber Answer: No. Removing a percutaneous gastrostomy tube is a relatively simple procedure, at least when complications don't require an endoscopy. Include it in your physician's E/M service for the encounter. Call on 43760 (Change of gastrostomy tube, percutaneous, without imaging or endoscopic guidance) only when your gastroenterologist inserts a new feeding tube.
