Strike These Modifiers When Reporting 82270

Question: I know we're supposed to use 82270 when the patient takes three cards for collection. Should we add a modifier, such as GA, to it?Connecticut SubscriberAnswer: Medicare covers this test once a year, so you should have no reason to report modifier GA (Waiver of liability statement on file)--- unless you think another physician tested your patient during the year.Keep in mind: When you report 82270 (Blood, occult, by peroxidase activity [e.g., guaiac], qualitative; feces, consecutive collected specimens with single determination, for colorectal neoplasm screening [i.e., patient was provided three cards or single triple card for consecutive collection]), you do not need modifier QW (CLIA-waived test).
