CPT 2005 Changes to Note

Post in your office as a reminder of new codes

If you're worried about what havoc the new CPT codes may wreak on your coding operations this January, here's a list that will help keep the new codes on everyone's minds:

 

  • 43257 - Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy including esophagus, stomach, and either the duodenum and/or jejunum as appropriate; with delivery of thermal energy to the muscle of lower esophageal sphincter and/or gastric cardia, for treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, for the Stretta procedure

     
  • 45391 - Colonoscopy, flexible, proximal to splenic   flexure; with endoscopic ultrasound examination, for colonoscopy with EUS

     
  • 45392 - ... with transendoscopic ultrasound guided intramural or transmural fine needle aspiration/biopsy(s), for colonoscopy with fine needle aspiration

     
  • 91034 - Esophagus, gastroesophageal reflux test; with nasal catheter pH electrode(s) placement, recording, analysis and interpretation, for gastroesophageal reflux testing

     
  • 91035 - ... with mucosal attached telemetry pH electrode placement, recording, analysis and interpretation, for scenarios in which the physician performs a  gastroesophageal reflux test with a Bravo probe
     
     
  • 91037 - Esophageal function test, gastroesophageal reflux test with nasal catheter intraluminal impedance electrode(s) placement, recording, analysis and interpretation, for esophageal impedance testing

     
  • 91038 - ... prolonged  (greater than 1 hour, up to 24 hours), for prolonged esophageal impedance testing

     
  • 91040 - Esophageal balloon distension provocation study, for balloon distension studies

     
  • 91120 - Rectal sensation, tone, and compliance test (i.e., response to graded balloon distention), for rectal sensation, tone and compliance tests.

    Revised code - Use 91065 (Breath hydrogen test [e.g., for detection of lactase deficiency], fructose intolerance, bacterial overgrowth, or orocecal gastrointestinal transit) when testing for lactase deficiency, fructose intolerance, bacterial overgrowth, or orocecal gastrointestinal transit.
