Don't Report a 99499 Without an E/M

Question: Can I use 99499 to report writing a prescription?

Answer: No, you cannot. A physician must perform an E/M in order for you to report 99499 (Unlisted evaluation and management service). You cannot bill for writing a prescription. Consider that service part of the cost of seeing patients.
