Question: Can I get help with a procedure code for this nail bed repair?

Note reads: location: right great toe, nail bed. length: 3 cm. Local analgesia was obtained using block. The wound was thoroughly cleansed, irrigated, and explored. No evidence of foreign body was noted. The wound was closed with 2 sutures with close approximation. The patient was neurovascularly intact after closure. No complications were noted. Sterile dressing applied.

Answer: For the scenario you describe, the reportable service is a repair of nail bed: 11760 (Repair of nail bed). Remember that placing the sutures is included in the code and should not be separately reported with a 120xx repair code. 

If a soft tissue laceration of the skin of the pulp or dorsum of the finger has occurred, that laceration would be separately reported with the simple intermediate or complex repair codes, depending upon the extent of the soft tissue laceration.
