Question: My ED is exploring the idea of having a tech do infiltration, prep, and cleaning of the wound, and then after exploration by the doc, suture wounds. Could we report those tech services on the professional side?
Answer: You are smart to investigate the reimbursement realities of that decision. The 12xxx and 13xxx CPT® codes do not make an allowance for the physician to bill procedures performed by “suture techs.”
