How Does MIPS Scoring Work?

There are four MIPS performance categories with their proposed weighting in 2017.

Each category has its own assigned point base as indicated below:

  • 50/100 points or 50 percent for Quality
  • 10/100 points or 10 percent for Cost /Resource Use
  • 25/100 points or 25 percent  for Advancing Care Information (replaces EHR Meaningful Use)
  • 15/100 points or 15 percent for Clinical Practice Improvement Activity (CPIA)

The proposed rule also listed the category weightings of future years.
