Question: Are non par providers not subject to Medicare audits?

Answer: The status of the providers, be it participating or non-par, does not have anything to do with the possibility of having an audit of one’s Medicare claims. CMS conducts audits and reviews with an objective to identify incorrect billing practices and thereby protect Medicare trust funds. Providers and their billing staff should be alert and minimize their errors, and even educate themselves on how to avoid future errors.
