Question: How should we report left heart catheterization in an adult patient with the diagnosis of congenital heart disease?
New York Subscriber
Answer: CPT® does not provide a left heart catheterization code specific to congenital heart disease services. So for left heart catheterization in a patient with congenital heart disease, you submit code 93452 (Left heart catheterization including intraprocedural injection[s] for left ventriculography, imaging supervision and interpretation, when performed). Append modifier 26 (Professional component) if you’re reporting only the cardiologist’s services.
Watch out: If the service is a combined right and left heart cath for congenital anomalies, choose from congenital codes 93531-93533, which represent combined caths.
Age is not a factor: These codes for catheterization in congenital cardiac conditions are not based on the age of the patient.
