South Carolina Subscriber Answer: You would report 33305 (Repair of cardiac wound; with cardiopulmonary bypass) for this service. CPB defined: When the cardiologist uses CPB, it allows him to temporarily take over the function of the patient’s heart and lungs to maintain the circulation of blood and the oxygen content of the body. CPB allows the patient’s blood to bypass the heart and lungs, and this technique gives the provider a still operative field. Don’t miss: If the cardiologist had performed the same procedure without CPB, then you would report 33300 (Repair of cardiac wound; without bypass) instead.
