Reader Questions:

Find Second Code for IVC Filter Placement

Question: Is there another code that goes along with 75940-26 for the placement of the IVC filter?

New Jersey Subscriber Answer: In addition to 75940-26 (Percutaneous placement of IVC filter, radiological supervision and interpretation; professional component), you can also report 37620 (Interruption, partial or complete, of inferior vena cava by suture, ligation, plication, clip, extravascular, intravascular [umbrella device]).

In the past, if your cardiologist performed a venogram in the inferior vena cava, you may have coded 75825 (Venography, caval, inferior, with serialography, radiological supervision and interpretation) .

Heads-up: According to the November 2004 issue of Cardiology Coding Alert, you'll find that the National Correct Coding Initiative includes venography code 75825 with 75940.
