Question: My cardiologist performed a comprehensive electrophysiologic (EP) evaluation with right atrial pacing and recording, right ventricular pacing and recording, and His bundle recording. They attempted to induce of arrhythmia during the EP study. During this diagnostic study, my cardiologist infused an intravenous drug, atropine, to induce the arrhythmia. Which codes should I report on my claim?

Answer: You should report 93620 (Comprehensive electrophysiologic evaluation including insertion and repositioning of multiple electrode catheters with induction or attempted induction of arrhythmia; with right atrial pacing and recording, right ventricular pacing and recording, His bundle recording) for the EP study.

For the intravenous drug infusion, you should report add-on code +93623 (Programmed stimulation and pacing after intravenous drug infusion (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure)) in addition to 93620.

Caution: Never report +93623 more than once per day, according to the CPT® guidelines.
