Demystify PET Stress Test Scenario
Question: My cardiologist performed a 78492 PET service during a cardiovascular stress submaximal treadmill test with continuous electrocardiographic monitoring, the supervision, interpretation, and report. Can I report both codes on the claim? South Carolina Subscriber Answer: Yes. The physician may perform myocardial perfusion SPECT or PET and at rest or during stress, according to the CPT® guidelines. When the physician performs codes PET/ SPECT codes 78430-78433, 78451-78454, 78472, 78491, or 78492 during exercise and/or pharmacologic stress, you may report both the appropriate stress testing code from the 93015-93018 range, in addition to the appropriate PET code. So, you may report 78492 and 93015 on your claim. Don’t miss: The cardiologist may perform a PET service on a dedicated PET machine or a combination PET/CT camera (78429, 78430, 78431, or 78433) according to the CPT® guidelines.
