Reader Question:

Use 75710 for Accessing Right Iliacs

Question: The dictation I have states "access was made into the right femoral artery. Difficulty was encountered passing the guidewire. Angiography was performed through the right femoral sheath. Using a supracore wire, an LCB catheter was then placed in the abdominal aorta and selective bilateral renal angiography was performed." I have an interpretation of the right iliac vessels as well as the renals. Is this enough to pick up the 75710? Maryland Subscriber Answer: Yes, you would use 75710 (Angiography, extremity, unilateral, radiological supervision and interpretation) in this instance because there is enough documentation to support the interpretation of the right iliac vessel. If the information describing catheter placement for bilateral renal angiography had been omitted, it might have been more difficult to substantiate billing of the 75710.
