Reader Question:

End Your Search for Endoleak Dx Code

Question: What diagnosis code should I use for an endoleak after an aortic endograft procedure?

Tennessee Subscriber

Answer: You should report the leak using T82.330A (Leakage of aortic [bifurcation] graft [replacement], initial encounter).

Note that T82.330A is applicable for all relevant visits during active treatment. Don’t let the phrase “initial encounter” in the descriptor mislead you. ICD-10 2017 Official Guidelines state, “initial encounter is used for each encounter where the patient is receiving active treatment for the condition.”

Depending on the nature of the encounter you also should be aware that ICD-10 offers these options:

  • T82.330D, Leakage of aortic (bifurcation) graft (replacement), subsequent encounter
  • T82.330S, Leakage of aortic (bifurcation) graft (replacement), sequela
