Cardiology Coding Alert

Correction to February article

The February 2003 Cardiology Coding Alert article "Keep Tabs on Stent Injuries in Brachytherapy Coding to Avoid Denials" should have stated that, according to the American College of Cardiology's (ACC) Guide to CPT 2003, you should not report 37202 (Transcatheter therapy, infusion other than for thrombolysis, any type [e.g. spasmolytic, vasoconstrictive]) for nitroglycerin therapy with diagnostic catheterization codes such as for angioplasty. The guide explains that infusion of substances, such as nitroglycerin, "is considered to be an intrinsic part of the catheterization procedure," so you should not report this separately.
