Changes to embolism coding may be on the horizon, too. CMS has posted proposed changes to diagnosis coding to go into effect Oct. 1, 2011. Your cardiology practice should be prepared to use new embolus codes: Additionally, 747.3 (Anomalies of pulmonary artery) will likely be replaced with codes requiring a fifth digit to specify coarctation and atresia, arteriovenous malformation, or other anomalies.
