Question: What anesthesia code would you use when billing for services during 52287?

Answer: In most circumstances, the anesthesia is considered included in cystourethroscopy procedure 52287 (Cystourethroscopy, with injection[s] for chemodenervation of the bladder).
However, if the urologist makes arrangements for an anesthesiologist to administer anesthesia during the procedure, submit 00910 (Anesthesia for transurethral procedures [including urethrocystoscopy]; not otherwise specified), which has a base value of 3. Append modifier AA (Anesthesia services performed personally by anesthesiologist) to 00910. Be sure to include any documentation of the request to help support the need for anesthesia.
