Check These Options for Percutaneous Image Guided Procedures

Question: What are the differences between codes 01935 and 01936?

California Subscriber

Answer: Codes 01935 (Anesthesia for percutaneous image guided procedures on the spine and spinal cord; diagnostic) and 01936 (Anesthesia for percutaneous image guided procedures on the spine and spinal cord; therapeutic) are specifically meant for percutaneous image guided procedures. Each code is valued at five base units.

Either of these codes can apply to many situations. Sometimes, however, you’ll need to be sure you’re submitting the correct one in order to avoid a denial. For example, 01935 (diagnostic) is used in conjunction with myelography or discography while 01936 (therapeutic) is used for anesthesia during vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, or chemonucleolysis.
