Question: Our physician performed a superior hypogastric nerve block procedure using two needles. How should I code this, and what is a reasonable charge?

Maine Subscriber Answer: Report code 64517 (Injection, anesthetic agent; superior hypogastric plexus). This code is new for 2003 and has 10 base units. The Medicare allowable (not adjusted for geographic index) is 3.21 RVU ($112.78) for a facility location and 5.08 RVU ($178.48) for a nonfacility location. Check your local guidelines to adjust your fee accordingly.
