Overcome Medicaid Billing Complexities With These Resources

Question: We had a Florida Medicaid patient deliver their baby while they were visiting. Will Florida Medicaid pay for services in Georgia?

Georgia Subscriber

Answer: According to the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), “Florida Medicaid will pay only for emergency care, or care that has been arranged and approved by Florida Medicaid ahead of time.” Thus, if this is considered an emergent delivery or the patient pre-arranged coverage, you may be able to file a claim, presuming you are willing to accept Florida Medicaid payment. If you file this way — despite the payment being less than what you’d receive from the patient — be sure to follow the Florida Medicaid modifier rules, which may differ from other states.

If you choose not to file with Medicaid, the patient is responsible for their bill according to Georgia state guidelines.
