Ask These Questions Before Bringing on a Billing Company

Question: Can you recommend a billing company or recommend what questions we should be asking a billing company?

Answer: Even if someone offers a recommendation for a certain billing company, there is no guarantee how they will perform with your data. The best advice is to ask questions before making a decision and keep a spreadsheet for comparison purposes. Include pros and cons, and although you can ask for references, also use social media to check. Often when the billing company provides references, they are from companies the billing company knows will give them a good review.

Once you select a billing company, your group should perform periodic reviews to determine how your accounts are being handled. Informal reviews should be able to be performed without any notice to the billing company. Formal reviews may take a while to set up. External reviewers should be certified, proficient in your specialty, and sign a contract and business associates agreement.
