Report 01480 for Anesthesia During MBA Implant Procedure

Question: How should I code for MBA implants with a diagnosis of bilateral hallux valgus? North Carolina Subscriber Answer: The best options for coding the implants from a surgical perspective are 28293 (Correction, hallux valgus [bunion], with or without sesamoidectomy; resection of joint with implant) or 28899 (Unlisted procedure, foot or toes). Both of these procedure codes cross to anesthesia code 01480 (Anesthesia for open procedures on bones of lower leg, ankle, and foot; not otherwise specified).
