Reader Question:

Remember That 62263 Covers Multiple Days of Treatment

Question: My physician performed an epidural lysis and administered three injections over the course of three days. It looks like code 62263 is correct for the percutaneous epidural adhesion. I am not sure if I can code for the epidural injection via indwelling catheter the following two days. Any advice?

Answer: Submit 62263 (Percutaneous lysis of epidural adhesions using solution injection (eg, hypertonic saline, enzyme) or mechanical means (eg, catheter) including radiologic localization (includes contrast when administered), multiple adhesiolysis sessions; 2 or more days) one time to represent the entire series of injections involving (note the designation of “2 or more days” in the code descriptor). You do not need to report an additional code to capture the injection via indwelling catheter since 62263 includes injections in epidural space.

Also note: Both codes 62263 and 62264 (… 1 day) should be reported only one time for the entire series of injections, infusions, or mechanical lysis procedures performed, not per adhesiolysis treatment.
