Anesthesia Coding Alert

Question: Our group is planning to work with an anesthesia group located in south Georgia that will have some Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Florida patients. We are participating with BCBS of Georgia. If we see a BCBS Florida patient, am I correct that we file that claim to the local plan? If so, does this reimburse at BCBS Georgia rates or BCBS Florida rates?

Answer: Most likely, you will file the claim with your local BCBS insurance under a reciprocity arrangement. The rate most likely will be the one that is best for BCBS. To make sure, however, work with the person responsible for this area in your practice and reach out to your local provider relations representative.
