Previous C-Section Delivery Will Change to O34.21 in ICD-10

Tip: Be careful not to confuse "O" with "0". When ICD-10 codes goes into effect in October 2013, you'll only have one diagnosis code to remember for delivery for a previous cesarean section patient. The current ICD-9-CM diagnosis 654.21 (Previous cesarean delivery; with delivery, with or without antepartum condition) will change to O34.21 (Maternal care for scar from previous cesarean delivery). Check notations: Under ICD-9-CM, code 654.21 includes the note, "Uterine scar from previous cesarean delivery." ICD-10 changes this notation to, "Maternal care for scar from previous cesarean section," which matches the description used in other countries. Don't trip: One factor to pay special attention to in ICD-10 is the use of the letter "O" in some codes. Coders aren't accustomed to seeing "O" in diagnosis codes, so don't confuse it with the numeral "0." You'll be able to tell the difference because ICD-10 prints the numeral with a slash [...]
