Be Sure Youre Using Correct Arthroscopic Base Units

Updating your computer system to accurately reflect the correct base units is one of the biggest challenges in using the new and revised arthroscopy codes, says Susan West, RHIT, with Auditing for Compliance and Education Inc., in Leawood, Kan. Be sure your system reflects these units for new and revised anesthesia codes:
01382 Anesthesia for diagnostic arthroscopic procedures of knee joint; 3 units
01400 Anesthesia for open or surgical arthro-scopic procedures on knee joint; not otherwise specified; 4 units
01464 Anesthesia for arthroscopic procedures of ankle and/or foot; 3 units
01622 Anesthesia for diagnostic arthroscopic procedures of shoulder joint; 4 units
01630 Anesthesia for open or surgical arthro-scopic procedures on humeral head and neck, sternoclavicular joint, acromioclavicular joint, and shoulder joint; not otherwise specified; 5 units
01732 Anesthesia for diagnostic arthroscopic procedures of elbow joint; 3 units
