What Counts as “Anesthesia”

CMS guidelines as they apply to OPPS and --beginning Jan. 1 -- ASCs, define anesthesia broadly to include:

• local/regional block(s)
• moderate sedation/analgesia (conscious sedation)
• deep sedation/analgesia

• general anesthesia.
