Reader Question: Neuropsych Testing
Question: For neuropsychological testing, should we charge for the entire test as one entity or per hour? The status indicator listed is an X on the APC list.

Answer: For all codes, unless the CPT description designates a specified amount of time, the charge is for the entire test. Neuropsychological testing and psychological testing (96117, neuropsychological testing battery [e.g., Halstead-Reitan, Luria, WAIS-R] with interpretation and report, per hour; and 96100, psychological testing [includes psychodiagnostic assessment of personality, psychopathology, emotionality, intellectual abilities, e.g., WAIS-R, Roschach, MMPI] with interpretation and report, per hour) are both per hour in the CPT descriptions. There is no professional-technical split for these codes. They are billed either as a professional fee in a doctors office or outpatient hospital to Part B or as a facility charge to Part A.
