Reader Question: Coding APCs

Q Will coders have to learn to code with the APCs? If so, when can we expect to receive the training information?

A Coders will continue to code with the CPT, ICD-9 and HCPCS codes currently used for Medicare outpatient claims. The carrier will then convert the codes to the related APCs for the services rendered, calculate payment, and advise the hospital on the remittances allowed and what co-insurance to bill to the patient.
