Reader Question: Needle Supply Code

Question: Is there a code to bill for the needles and syringes used during allergy testing?

Pennsylvania Reader

Answer: Most carriers do not pay separately for needles and syringes (99070, supplies and materials [except spectacles], provided by the physician over and above those usually included with the office visit or other services rendered [list drugs, trays, supplies, or materials provided).

The value of the needle and any other incidental supplies required to perform the test already is included in the value of the procedure code for the allergy test (i.e., 95028, intracutaneous [intradermal] tests with allergenic extracts, delayed type reaction, including reading, specify number of tests).
