Reader Question: Injections Outside Office

Question: Many of our patients receive injections at locations other than our office. Are we allowed to report 95165 for serum administered outside of our office?

Ohio Subscriber

Answer: Yes, you may report 95165 (Professional services for the supervision of preparation and provision of antigens for allergen immunotherapy; single or multiple antigens [specify number of doses]) for serum prepared by the physician but administered outside the office.

All CPT codes in the range 95144-95170, including 95165, describe preparation of antigens only. Injections may be reported separately, either by the physician preparing the antigens or another physician, using either 95115 (Professional services for allergen immunotherapy not including provision of allergenic extracts; single injection) or 95117 ( two or more injections) as appropriate.
